How Is Orthopedic Massage Different?
Orthopedic massage is a therapeutic style of massage focused on improving soft-tissue function, mobility, and range of motion. Unlike massage focused primarily on relaxation, it is designed around specific movement restrictions or areas of discomfort.

Where restrictions come from
Your history lives in your tissue
Previous injuries, surgery, repetitive movements, sports, work, and daily activities can all create restrictions in muscles and connective tissues.
Those restrictions change how you move. Over time the body compensates, and the place that hurts is often not the place that started it.
Every body is different, so every treatment is different.
Compare
Orthopedic, deep tissue, and sports massage
These styles overlap and are often combined. The difference is mostly in what the session is organized around.
Orthopedic Massage
Designed around a specific movement restriction or area of discomfort. The session is organized around assessment: what is restricted, what is compensating, and which soft tissues are involved. Techniques are selected to restore function around the joint.
Deep Tissue Massage
Uses slow, sustained pressure to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia. It is excellent for chronic tightness and dense tissue, and it is often used inside an orthopedic session, but on its own it is defined by depth rather than by a movement goal.
Sports Massage
Oriented around athletic training and performance — preparing for activity, recovering after it, and managing the demands of a particular sport. It shares many techniques with orthopedic work, but the framing is the athlete's schedule and sport.
What a session looks like
Assess, treat, re-check
We talk it through
What hurts, what feels restricted, what you're trying to get back to doing.
Targeted treatment
Myofascial release, trigger point work, neuromuscular technique, cupping, and stretching as needed.
Movement re-check
Range of motion is revisited so the work can be adjusted within the same session.
